History

Maharero Royal Authority is located in Otjinene, 157 kilometres from Gobabis. This Royal  Authority was founded in 1900, but its history dates back to the period when the Herero people, then known as the Bandwa, trekked from the land of Reeds to present-day Namibia.

Huru, the son of Mungava, led this group and was also the chief of the clan that is now known as Tjikatjamuaha, or Otjimaharero from Kaokoland. Mutjise, the son of Mbunga, led this Royal House to the centre of Namibia. Following Mutjise came his son Tjirue, who was followed by Tjamuaha, then his son Maharero, whose son Samuel Maharero became our current chief Tjinaani Maharero's great-great-grandfather.
